Be Prepared For The Arrival Of Your First Baby

Getting ready to welcome your first baby is a truly exciting and also potentially overwhelming experience. You are both anxious to meet the baby that has been growing inside of you and check that the requisite ten toes and fingers are in place, but at the same time you may wonder how you will deal with all the demands of a baby and the change to your lifestyle.

The best thing that you can do is to get prepared. Now that does not mean dashing out to your nearby baby shop and maxing the credit card buying all the bells and whistles of baby stuff you can lay your hands on. It means reading up on baby information and preparing yourself mentally and physically for the birth.

Baby stuff is definitely cute, but you do not have to bankrupt yourself buying up designer baby bedding and hunting down crystal encrusted pacifiers. You will need the extra cash soon enough with a new born and a possible cut in the household income. Talk to other mothers and find out what the common necessities are, buy them and adopt a wait and see approach for the other items.

A few of the necessities when you have a baby are a good safe and sturdy pram, a convertible crib that can take the baby from newborn to toddler, a breast pump if you are going to be breastfeeding, bottles, clothing, blankets and other little extras like bibs and so on. A change table is often useful, but if you do not have much extra cash or a lot of room in your home, then you can skip this bit of baby furniture.

Emotionally you should be prepared for a bit of a roller coaster. When your new baby is born there are a million hormones screaming around your body and this can make you emotionally fragile and sensitive. When you add into the equation that your body has just been through a physically traumatic experience as well as undergoing a huge life change, then you can see that it might be a stressful period of your life. Buying a good bedding collection will also ensure that you do not have to do laundry so often.

The best thing to do is to give yourself a break. Don’t expect to have everything perfect and allow yourself to make mistakes. If it means that the washing up doesn’t get done until the next afternoon or that you are still unshowered and in your PJs at three o’clock in the afternoon, then so be it.

Your first baby will come with some tricky moments, but the best thing is to be as prepared as you can and go with the flow as much as possible.
