Just the other day, I was at my daughter’s school, waiting to pick her up. I saw a woman come in with a small boy, who’s probably two. He began to play and run around like kids do. But when he distanced himself a little from the mother, I heard the mother call out to him, “John!” Now, this is where I have trouble understanding. Who still calls their son John? The name has been used redundantly and often through the years. I mean, there must be millions of Johns on earth. How can parents still go and choose this plain, tired name? It’s not bad, but it’s just so common. There are so many more new born baby names to pick from. They’re all over the web now.
