Babies Formula
There are all kinds of babies formula on the market today. You can find many different brands and varieties in stores around the country. Any supermarket, drugstore, discount store or baby supply store should carry a wide range of formula choices. There are also formulas that can be prescribed by the pediatrician for babies with special needs. First, let's examine the two main types of infant formula -- milk based and soy based. Milk based formula contains lactose and sucrose, while soy based formula is lactose free and often sucrose free.
Most babies can tolerate the average, iron-enriched cow milk based formula such as Similac, Enfamil or Carnation Good Start to name a few. If you are looking for savings consider a store brand like Parent's Choice which is sold by Wal-Mart. Of course if your baby is displaying signs of lactose and/or sucrose intolerance your pediatrician may decide to switch him or her to a soy formula like Prosobee. Prosobee by Mead Johnson is not the only soy formula but one of the most popular as it contains no lactose or sucrose.
Both traditional and soy formulas come in three varieties -- powdered, liquid concentrate and ready to feed. Powdered formula comes in cans that are able to be stored in your cabinet for a long time before their expiration date. Powdered formula does not require refrigeration, even after it has been opened. Liquid concentrate, on the other hand, does require refrigeration if all the concentrate in the container is not used at once. Ready to feed formula also requires refrigeration of any unused portion. While ready to feed is the easiest as far as preparation is concerned it is also usually the most expensive.
When researching babies formula you should definitely talk to your pediatrician. Not only can they recommend a good formula based on your income and the needs of your baby, they can also give you helpful tips and pointers on the subject of bottle feeding. There are also a variety of online resources and books that can educate you on the subject of formula and feeding your baby. The more you learn about feeding your baby with formula the more confident you will be with the bottle feeding process.
